Agility Training
Maplewood offers Agility classes for all levels from beginners to advanced. Michele has been involved in dog training for the last 30+ years. First in Obedience with her Golden Retrievers, then she discovered Agility and fell in love with the sport. She’s been actively competing in Agility for the last 15+ years. Michele also works her dogs in harness in the Fall and Winter months when she participates in various dog sledding events.
Beginners: Level 1
Prerequisites: This class is open to puppies 6 months and up and well socialized dogs. Knowledge of basic obedience skills such as come, sit, down and stay are required.
At this level, dogs are introduced to jumps, tunnels, the tire and the table. Emphasis will be put on the safe performance of these obstacles. This class will also focus on the following skills:
- Hand targets
- Reinforcement of sits/downs/stays
- Stretches
- Basic handling on the flat
- Obstacle focus
- Short sequences (up to 8 obstacles)
Beginners: Level 2
Prerequisites: Completion of Beginners Level 1 or the equivalent.
At this level, dogs continue to work on their jump and tunnel skills. Contact obstacles are introduced as well as the weaves. This class will also focus on the following skills:
- Advance the hand targets
- Ground targets
- Introduction to directionals
- More obstacle focus
- Basic handling with jumps
- Start distance work
- Sequences of up to 12 obstacles
Beginners: Level 3
Prerequisites: Completion of Beginners Level 2 or the equivalent.
At this level, dogs should have a good knowledge of all Agility equipment. Emphasis will be put on improving the performance of all equipment. This class will also focus on the following skills:
- Continue target work
- Advance the directionals skill
- Introduction to wraps and more advanced handling
- Advance the distance work
- Sequences of up to 15 obstacles
Competitive: Starters
Competition level sequences are introduced.
Prerequisites: Dogs must be 18 months or older; well socialized; have kowledge of basic obedience (come, sit, down, stay); and knowledge of all Agility equipment. Handlers must have knowledge of basic handling skills.
Competitive: Advanced
Advanced level sequences are introduced.
Prerequisites: Dogs must be 18 months or older; well socialized; have kowledge of basic obedience (come, sit, down, stay); and knowledge of all Agility equipment. Handlers must have knowledge of basic handling skills.
What You Need to Know
Class Information & Rates
Classes are typically 1 hour in length. There are 2 available options:
Group Lessons (maximum 4 dogs): $200 for 8 weeks, HST included. Payment is due on the first day of the session.
Private lessons: $40 for 45 minutes, HST included. Payment is due on day of lesson.

Monday to Sunday: 8:00am to 10:00am and 4:00pm to 6:00pm
